Roger Gets Stoned by Amy Berman Jackson
Roger Stone and his lawyers were not as crazy as Flynn and Sid Powell, but they were not far off. Now there is a court opinion evidencing exactly that.
Bmaz is a rather large saguaro cactus in the Southwestern Sonoran desert. A lover of the Constitution, law, family, sports, food and spirits. As you might imagine, a bit prickly occasionally. Bmaz has attended all three state universities in Arizona, with both undergraduate and graduate degrees from Arizona State University, and with significant post-graduate work (in physics and organic chemistry, go figure) at both the University of Colorado in Boulder and the University of Arizona. Married, with both a lovely child and a giant Sasquatch dog. Bmaz has been a participant on the internet since the early 2000’s, including active participation in the precursor to Emptywheel, The Next Hurrah. Formally joined the Emptywheel blog as an original contributing member at its founding in 2007. Bmaz grew up around politics, education, sports and, most significantly, cars; notably around Formula One racing and Concours de Elegance automobile restoration and showing. Currently lives in the Cactus Patch with his lovely wife and beast of a dog, and practices both criminal and civil trial law.

Live music is the real test. A lot of people with studio musicians, tone benders and professional mixing can make a decent sounding studio album. The real ones do it even better live. This is a discussion about those bands and people.
Emptywheel Music Trash Talk is an idea long discussed, but the time may have come. Listen, this would be a kind of dead period anyway. Get ready to get live, get ready to rip up this juke joint. Fill the hills with the sound of live music.
It is always the right time to do the right thing. The right thing is Moe Davis for Congress in NC-11. The time is now. Support and vote.
Go read this article by David Roth at the Columbia Journalism Review, it is brutally true. Here is a taste, but do read the whole thing: It all happened in the way that decline generally happens in American culture, which is one anxious, hopeful, cynical capitulation at a time. We have compressed and corroded and […]

Who will win the Super Bowl on Groundhog Day?
You probably know by now that Kobe Bryant has died in a tragic helicopter crash. Even more sadly, it appears his teen daughter did as well and they were on the way to some kind of basketball event with another parent and daughter, and, of course, the pilot. All are dead. The facts are young, […]
Last Sunday of football before the Super Bowl, so only two games today. But they should be great ones. Couple of other things in the news too.
Monday is the fun day this extended football week. I intentionally did not put this in the Division Weekend post. Oh, and as to that, as usual, my off the cuff picks were not, shall we say, exactly right. You get what you pay for. Niners won as expected. Cool! But the Titans totally clocked […]
