Come On Down Paul Gosar, The Latest Arizona Embarrassment
You may have watched the House Oversight hearing with Michael Cohen last Wednesday (See here and here). One of the most hilarious moments came when Arizona Republican Representative Paul Gosar went off the rails to crazy town.
The original is here courtesy of CNN. It is batshit nuts.
Last night, Saturday Night Live did a sendup of Gosar’s insane nuttery. Even the local press recognized the moment for what it was.
Yes, this is the same Paul Gosar that came into the light as Sarah Palin’s dentist friend was in cahoots with the idiot fellow dentist Gosar. Yes, it is all really that stupid.
And, now, that is where we are and, like Louis Gohmert and Matt Gaetz, Arizona has one of the biggest and most ignorant buffoons in national politics. Happy to see SNL catching up, but Arizonans have understood what an ignorant and cancerous buffoon Gosar is for years.
Oh my.
From the Roll Call piece: [Defending his hires’ lack of congressional experience,] “Trust. A series of promises kept,” Gosar said Thursday. “They [Palin dentist Robinson & Palin family attorney Van Flein] are battle-tested with me and things we have to take on with regards to dentistry.”
“Arizonans have understood what an ignorant and cancerous buffoon Gosar is for years”
But yet, he gets elected multiple times.
Isn’t this the same guy who has siblings that really hate him?
Guy lives in a very heavy Rep area. People will choose the Rep candidate no matter what he/she says.
Sadly, this is kind of true. But AZ will have to redistrict because it is almost certain that we will pick up an additional seat because population. Currently we have a kind of fair system for that, but not sure right wing kooks like AZ Gov @DougDucey and in the AZ legislature will not meddle cravenly. cc: @LaurieRoberts @EJMontini
Nods knowingly, another seat should be a good thing but hard not to fear “Douche-y” and his ilk will find a way to redistrict in another red seat
Gosar’s twitter feed is pretty weird. He obviously likes Breitbart News and accuses some of his opponents of ‘belittling photosynthesis’?
Yeah he responded to someone asking him about the Green New Deal by complaining that what is wrong with this country is that children are not being taught about photosynthesis.
I suspect he was trying to allude to the BS idea that global warming will simply be countered by more plants which will eat all the carbon. This idea has been tossed about by British deniers before “we’ll just get bigger forests!” That of course is BS as the pace required for such consumption is too slow for us to survive and of course plants are down on the ground not in the ocean or up in the upper atmosphere.
Climate deniers can no longer claim nothing is changing. Nor can they really rely on the premise that “noone can argue we are involved”. Now all they got is Chlorophyll.
Actually, an increase in CO2 starts affecting plants immediately. They definitely grow more vigorously.
However, the accelerated growth is accompanied by a reduction in nutritional value, which can be caused by a number of factors: https://vegetablegrowersnews.com/news/the-co2-effect-more-growth-but-fewer-nutrients/
This ass needs to learn about photorespiration.
True, but I never claimed that they would not grow faster. Just that they won’t do whatever magic supergrowth he thinks will eat all the upper atmosphere carbon. Trees don’t grow to the sky.
The problem with the whole “we’ll just plant more trees” idea is that summer temperatures in my midwestern city are getting so hot that old trees AND young ones are dying. I’m seeing a wave of large trees being removed en masse from boulevards and yards. Four huge trees gone from another corner I use all the time, such a shock to see it empty.
However, warmer temps, especially at night have a really bad impact on some plants ability to mature properly, e.g. rice (not at all an important crop amirite?). So plant scientists are desperately trying to develop new climate change adapted varieties. That’s just one example. The world’s food supply is actually under real threat.
I’ve called the AZ desert home for most of my days…no surprise the state that brought on itself the original MLK day super bowl fiasco & the shame of sb1070 continues to elect idiots like Gosar but it never becomes less disheartening! (Even when we voted down the trump stooge McSally the despicable GOP & douchebag turtle still found a way to give her a seat)
Very true Josap, between the Mormons, Midwest blue haired Dino’s and the big truck driving redneck wanna be cowboy populations it’s still a shoe in seat for the GOP but like everywhere else the demographics are changing…sigh…just not fast enough for most of our tastes
It is getting better though. Pima County has alway been mostly sane, and Maricopa County is clawing its way back to that status. I have been here, mostly, since birth. Even if Republican oriented, it was never insane in those days. It has been far too much so for quite a while now. It is changing, and it is almost palpable. Almost.
Yep, Things are getting better demographically speaking which along with Trump is likely a reason the craziest of GOP crazies are coming out of the woodwork…they can feel their grasp slipping away
Careful. You guys are giving me hope for Texas, too. ;-)
Also, don’t forget that last year six of Gosar’s nine siblings starred in brutal political ads urging voters to vote him out and elect his opponent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1N-m83vYr-Y
He’s also spoken out at a white nationalist rally in support of British NeoNazi Tommy Robinson:
https://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/news/arizona-congressman-paul-gosar-rally-for-anti-muslim-activist-10624615
Tommy Robinson, who is actually Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon, but chose to make his name more working class, to pretend he’s another Joe the Plumber (remember him?)

I’ve watched all the dropouts who make their own rules

Excellent!
Florida is sure to dig up some garbage to keep us well in front of AZ for most effed up. But Gosar is a very “good” character.
I do believe part of the Epstein mess is on tap next week featuring, also, Dershowitz down in Palm Beach I think. Oh, and Stone’s “imminent” book thing and the 24hr insta-InstaGram tomfoolery with ABJ.
We draw them in from all over. Stay tuned.
Florida suffers from a combination of no state taxes/elderly diehard GOP snowbird voters.
If we changed election day to the middle of July the state would be blue.
Exactly! Same in AZ, blue hairs from the Midwest are helping keep the GOP in control
Changing the Residency Guidelines would be a good start, right now you just have to “mentally intend to make it your permanent residence”.
To prove that you can use something as simple as paying a water bill or receiving mail at an address, as every snowbird renting a house can do. AND, once you have it, it’s valid until “evidence shows otherwise”.
Not true. I live in a retirement community in Az, and true dat there are a lot of old Midwesterners living here, but most of them are dems, not repugs.
The problem is that the snowbirds don’t show until after the middle of November.
Honestly, what is turning Az purple is all of the blue hair mixing with the red necks.
Pretty sure Stone’s book is “out”. It’s an old book with a new intro. You can read the new part on the “Look Inside” feature. Publication date is listed as Feb 19, two days before the gag order. I’m not convinced that’s the true publication date, though. Should be interesting to see what happens next.

If you use the “Look Inside” feature at the top of the cover you can read his “New Introduction”.
I look forward to hearing from everyone on how bad he’s stepped in it.
Couldn’t edit my previous reply for some reason?
With Amazons current system, the publication date can be changed by the publisher, or anyone with access to the account used to publish it. Most changes made to a manuscript or the books metadata happen in 24 hours or less.
Never underestimate the wizardry of Ozz!
Reminds me of Pat Paulson. Paulson was a comedian who pretended to run for president.
Remember how he tried to imitate George Washington by throwing a dollar across the Delaware River (I think it was), but he tried to throw a dollar bill instead of a dollar coin?
“I think pressure gets to people when it appears they’re trying to cover things up.”
And
“It is time to reclaim our nation’s moral compass.”
Quotes by Paul Gosar
I am from NC and sadly our Senators and Representatives can give AZ a run for the money in the “lack of moral compass” department. We even have an unfilled seat in the 9th Congressional district because of vote tampering.
I’m from Oklahoma. We have Senator Inhofe: checkmate.
Louisiana here. We only play checkers…..
Two things, we keep voting for our guy because “he’s not an idiot like that other idiot”, and for Pat Paulsen, “We Can’t Stand Pat.”
When history looks back on Gosar’s public speeches and commentary through his career in public service, it will be hard to top his “Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire” rebuttal to Cohen as the high point of his oratorical skills and persuasive ability.
Watching Gosar from somewhere in Minnesota, Michele Bachmann is missing her seat in Congress. “That used to be MY job!”
This Michele Bachmann?
https://youtu.be/89OOSFlcy98
I always cite Michelle Bachmann [and Sarah Palin] to all the sore loser Hillary fans who complain that we should have a woman president. Would they really want these women?
Hi I love this blog, EW, Rayne, bmaz, and the great community here. I’m very grateful for all you do. If I could make a small suggestion, I would like it if people could stop using cancer as a metaphor for all the vices under the sun of which people are capable. I have cancer and I’m trying to be a good person. Kind regards,
Peace to you, BJimmy.
It’s an analogy that fits what we know. (Had cancer. Trash it.)
Here’s the Gosar segment of the SNL skit (and the entire skit as well):

Gozer the Traveller – he will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldronaii, the Traveller came as a large and moving Torb! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the Meketrex supplicants, they chose a new form for him – that of a giant Sloar! Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of a Sloar that day, I can tell you!

QUOTE
The episode was seemingly referenced by politician Sarah Palin in an email to The Daily Caller November 1, 2010:
I suppose I could play their immature, unprofessional, waste-of-time game, too, by claiming these reporters and politicos are homophobe, child molesting, tax evading, anti-dentite, puppy-kicking, chain smoking porn producers…really, they are… I’ve seen it myself…but I’ll only give you the information off-the-record, on deep, deep background; attribute these “facts” to an “anonymous source” and I’ll give you more.[6]

It’s pretty obvious to me that Bmaz should pack his bags, head to the Northeast, — where the Reps are pretty normal, living is easy, and Duck Boat Parades are as plentiful/crazy as Donnie’s tweets. (Bruins are next)?
Remember Strzok’s testimony when Gosar warned him not to lie because Gosar is a dentist and therefore he reads body language “very, very well” and will catch him?
Gosar looked stupid anyway, but Strzok’s response was great.

My being from Arizona, I agree with what’s been said here!
Of course, my rationale for Common Sense rests on the quaint understanding for which “intentional ignorance versus criminal stupidity” is much-needed for the success of the Republican bastion.
He seems to like beer at least as much as Kavanaugh.
Watched this while it was happening and it truly was an “amazing” event. They actually elect this type of person to political office in the U.S.A.? No wonder some are saying the American Empire is dead and the U.S.A. is a country in decline. The man was carrying on as if he were with a group of friends in a bar and drinking. His behaviour was quite unprofessional. What I concluded was many of the Republicans were not interested in asking questions but rather in giving speeches condemning Cohen. No one seemed to take into consideration Cohen didn’t do what he did on his own. He was working for dtrump. This man did not contribute anything to the hearings. he not only wasted time, he was a waste of space.
