Trash Talk: Even Al Qaida Is Pimping The Cheesers Over Favre
It seems that the Brett Favre-Green Bay Packers saga is such a worldwide phenomenon that it’s being used by detainees in American military camps.
According to a military official, detainees at a Wisconsin National Guard camp in Iraq are using Brett Favre as a manner of getting at the guard troops there.
“They know Favre by name,” said First Lieutenant Tim Boehnen, who is from New Richmond, Wis.
“One of the big words they know now is shenanigan. They’ll constantly talk about ‘Favre shenanigans,’ ‘He’s so good for the Vikings,’ and ‘The Packers have got to really feel bad about that one.’ ”
According to Boehnen, it started when troops there started decorating their camp in Packers colors.
Heh. I wonder how you say Ted Thompson is a big fat arrogant idiot in Arabic. And I wonder how the Cheeseheads respond; it’s not like there is much they can say back to the creative and pesky detainees in light of the ass whuppin Favre and the Vikes have laid on them twice. Even on the hallowed Frozen Tundra of Lambeau. Ouch.
In other tangential football news, Obama has been chucking the pigskin on the White House lawn with Drew Fookin Brees (thus today’s musical selection “They Call Me The Breeze”). From USA Today:
President Obama is exercising executive privilege to get youngsters off their butts, and to urge all Americans to volunteer for community service.
In a TV spot set to run on Thanksgiving Day, viewers will see New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees zinging a pass to an unseen player. As we look closer, we realize the receiver is actually President Obama. The playing field is the White House lawn. The defender is Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu. The 90-second public service announcement is a joint effort between the NFL’s Play 60 campaign to fight childhood obesity and the president’s United We Serve public-service effort.
Pretty cool, and a worthy cause too. Football on the lawn at 1600 Pennsylvania; somewhere JFK, RFK and Teddy are smiling.
National Favre League: Lot of crappy games this week. What happened to all that “parity” in the league for a couple of years? A bunch of good teams and a bunch of crappy teams makes for a lot of crappy games. Falcons at Giants is interesting. Both teams have been a tad spotty lately (really spotty for the Gents). Both teams are 5-4 and desperately need a win to stay viable for the playoffs. I rate it a pick em. Peyton and the Colts at the Ravens could be good too. Ray Lewis must be hopping mad and motivated as hell right about now from the inconsistent play of the team so far, but the Colts look to be too much I think. Jets at Pats is getting a lot of press, but it is hard to see Belichick losing another game after last weeks fourth down brain fart. Bolts at Donkos could be good too. Bolts are on their late season run early this year; the Donkos are crashing back to reality and Kyle Orton is hurt and very questionable. His backup, Chris Simms, seems like a nice kid, but he sucks. So, the Bolts easy right? Maybe. The game is at Mile High, and that is a big equalizer, so who knows. The Monday night game of Tennessee at Houston sounds mediocre, but really should be pretty good. Vince Young and the Titans are both rejuvenated and starting to play Jeff Fisher ball like they are capable of. Houston is quietly fairly solid. This game is a sleeper.
Student Athaletes: Well here are words I never thought I would utter: The big game of the week is in The Old Pueblo, Tucson, with Mike Stoops and the Arizona Wildcats hosting the Quackers from Oregon. Winner controls their own destiny for the Rose Bowl; but both still have tough games left – USC and ASU for Arizona and Oregon State (the “Civil War) for the Ducks. Much as I hate to say it, Mike Stoops sucks, the Cats have a history of blowing big games and I’ll take Oregon here. Cal is at Stanford for “The Big Game”. That wacky Stanford Band will do something goofy and the Stanford Tree will continue to roll. Penn State better watch out for an upset when they visit Sparta in East Lansing. In other also ran snoozers, the team with an offense that matches the JC Penny backwoods sweater vest wardrobe of its head coach, apparently is visiting the pushovers in the home of Bo Merlot. The Wolverweenies make Charlie Weiss and the Domers look competent, and that is saying something. The Buckeyes are just boring, but will likely roll. I am just thankful that all the Big Ten teams have at least two losses so we do not have to suffer through another embarrassment of one of their teams possibly appearing in the BCS Championship and getting their asses waxed. Again.
So that is it for this week. Talk some smack jack!
“…the JC Penny backwoods sweater vest wardrobe of its head coach…”
Oh man, are you backing up Marcy’s double dog dare?
I recently heard how wonderful you would look in a sweater vest from Ohio!
Hee hee!
I knew it! You just wait you, you… Mr bmaz. You might get sweater vested yet.
(quick question. I left a question here and it is still nagging at me. No hurry. It’s late. Go to bed! Illness at this end is keeping me awake.)
Cal is at Stanford for “The Big Game”, thank you very much.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, I knew that; and now it is fixed. Thanks.
Not quite. For those who’ve spent time on either campus (and I’ve done time on both of them), it’s just “Big Game”. Closest I’ve ever come to fight in the stands at a game was at Big Game one year when drunk Weenie undergrads kept kneeing my wife in the back when she was pregnant with our first kid.
I love the Cal-Stanford rivalry. One of the best stories is that a Cal fan convinced the DMV that he called his car “Frankenstein’s Ford”, so they allowed him to get the vanity plate “FKSTNFRD” (I thought they only allowed seven letters, though?). I doubt he spent much time on the Stanford campus with that one.
[While we’re fixing errors, your first Stoops mention has the wrong bro, but the second try is good.]
Boring week at the top of the SEC, with the Gators taking on Fooey or something like that and Alabama doing the Charleston. The Gainesville paper tells us we’ll see a lot of John Brantley today. I popped for the pay per view anyway.
Now to watch the Drew Fookin Breeze video…
Eh, fixed that. I don’t like either one of them, but Bob is light years ahead of Mike.
Bad form for me to be correcting you while making my own mistake. Bama is doing the Chattanooga Choo Choo, not the Charleston.
Granted, they are playing a team that didn’t start football until 2002, but Tebow has 177 yards throwing and 102 yards rushing (including a 55 yd TD) at halftime.
Here at the coffeemaker…the bets are laid…..Saints and vikings….
VERY VERY bigtime mojo to play QB with that kind of recievers….who can loose?…and RAHMBO as linemen……..id say thats a sure bet
Well…….to put it in the words of one of my friends….
My god has hammer, yours got nailed to a cross… any questions?
I go viking on that one…….then again im still looking for the manual of the game here at the redcoat end
Just my five cents worth
bmaz: quelle guyere?
First you justly pour some melted cheese over the helmet heads of Packer Nation for turning into grand old pity party poopers, then you yourself go & cut some cheese with that “brain fart” cracker at the Einstein of Little Three X-and-0 ball!
Right after the too-many-hits-to-the-head washed-up ex-pert ex-Pats jumped out of their ill-fitting Mister Moores to join in on the Kill Bill action, nacho-ly enough the propeller-head set responded with actual evidence and numbers, every little crumb of which supports Belichuck’s belligerence —
led by ex-fighter pilot Brian Burke from his cockpit at http://www.advancednflstats.com [who will be on ESPN Sunday to lay it all out for those who lack the kraft to digest the math — he’s getting the NFL equivalent of the bump fearless leader received with her water torture catch on KSM & al Zubaydah].
Bottom slice for the lactose intolerant:
Win Percent Average [WPA] if the Pats punt: 0.70 in the Pat’s favor.
WPA if the Pats gopher it on 4th down: 0.79 in the Pats’ favor.
Net advantage: eight percent better if the Pats gopher it on 4th down.
I like season end college football because teams are in their best form and rivals play. And when rivals play, players tend to play inspired football. Today we are treated to
Harvard v Yale
Cal v. Stanford
Toady is also the day high school JV teams play their last game of the season. I’ll be watching some of my JV lacrosse players in their last JV football game of the year against their arch rival this morning. Go Wildcats! These boys have improved immensely over the season.
Belichub didn’t have a brain fart he played the odds, which were in his favor, and lost.
TMQ has a good breakdown on why this is the case although he does have some criticisms for some other calls Belichub made.
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=easterbrook/091117&sportCat=nfl
You can find numbers to support any nonsense. I can hire an expert witness that will swear under oath and penalty of perjury that the sky is really green instead of blue. The result of a quick Peyton/Colts TD and game win is the complete proof that it was the wrong call. And when Rodney Harrison and Tedy Bruschi tell you that not only was it totally fucking stupid, but that it was insulting and demoralizing to the defense, it is simply icing on the brain fart cake. TMQ and Tim Graham of ESPN, whoever in the world they are, can spew all they want, but they are simply rationalizing a horrid mistake.
I like Steve Young’s take, if you are going to do it, get right up to the line and hike the ball on 1 while the defense is still scrambling to get their punt return team on the field. Taking a timeout was the big mistake. That said, get back to me when YOU have won 3 Super Bowls, and maybe I will take your opinion seriously.
I also think the Dolts would have scored even if the punt landed on the 1, remember they had 2 timeouts in the bank when they did score. I also think the Patsies had the first down but because of the ridiculous and stupid instant replay process, no one was able to review the call.
Yeah, well Tedy Bruschi has three rings and Rodney Harrison two, they both love Belichick and they both said it was the dumbest move in the world. Is that acceptable for getting back to you with some rings? Also, in case you didn’t notice, the move by Belichick failed miserably; its propriety speaks for itself.
Did you bother reading the article? Or do you just prefer channeling Rush?
Yes, I read the article completely. Equating me with Rush Limbaugh because I agree with Bruschi, Harrison and a whole lot of other serious football people is weak and laughable. But whatever, knock yourself out with your faux indignity dude.
Heh, I guess I am indignant. But only because I expected a more cogent argument from you.
I mean, come on…
But apparently you have a story and you’re sticking to it, so I’ll wander off and play elsewhere.
Oh, don’t do that! This is trash talk after all. The only part that bugged me was the equation with Rush Limbaugh. Now that was uncalled for. The rest is all good.
The problem wasn’t the straight-up odds…it was the location in which Belichek called the play.
Game Theory requires one to look at not only the chances of success, but the consequences of failure…which had much higher odds of defeat (close to 100% at such short range: given that Belichek feared that an 80 yard drive in about 1:20 was highly probable). Belichek only talked about the odds of making the play. If that’s all he considered then he’s making decisions without a full deck.
Exactly
It’s all situational. You have to look at how much time is left in the game and where you are on the field. Are you ahead or behind?
If you’re behind of course you go for it, but if you’re ahead you make them go 65 or 70 yards against your defense who just might force a fumble or stop the Colts on a 4th and 2. If you go for it on 4th and 2 on the Colts 35 in the middle of the 3rd quarter, you don’t lose the game if you miss it. Conversely, if you go for a 4th and 2 on your 28 with two minutes left in the game and miss it, well … Had they won they would have been one game behind the Colts for home field advantage, as it is, they are now three games behind. What if they have to go on the road for the playoffs to Pittsburgh or Cincinnati?
Or, in baseball. Say, you’re on 1st base with two outs and down one run in the 9th – the batter hits a line drive to the left fielder, do you try for 3rd? If it’s to the center fielder, do you try it? Even if it’s to the right fielder do you try it? If you try it in a game in April, no big deal. But what happens if you try that in game 7 of the World Series, and you kill a possible rally?
Possible home field advantage gone in one decision. Was it worth it?
Bmaz, did you write this post just to see if I was paying attention? Sheesh, I know I’ve been scarce lately, but ya kinda overdid it, don’t ya think? Last I checked we were both Pack fans, but now I’m thinking the Vikes have won your heart. I hate to break it to you ol’ friend, but purple isn’t your color, green and gold sets off that AZ tan of yours much better ; )
So not only do you manage to dis the Pack, but you throw the WI National Guard under the bus, too. I wonder if that constitutes “material support” ; ) And then, to top it all off, you don’t even mention the Niners are paying a visit to the still cooling Tundra (too early to have frozen yet). Maybe, you don’t think that will be a fun game to watch, but after the Pack nearly shut-out Jessica Simpson’s ex-boyfriend’s team last weekend, I am quite looking forward to it…
{I’m way behind on my smack, how’d I do? ; }
Nice to have you back, Cheesehead.
It was probably a little hard for her to show her face while Favre was destroying the beloved Pack. And being a fellow lifelong Pack fan, I can relate; but it was made a whole lot easier when I thought of Ted Thompson’s fat ass sitting up in a luxury box and having to watch the carnage he hath wrought.
And I missed Phred too!
Thanks EW, I’ve missed trashing the place ; )
Bob, I’m looking for a nice white gentleman’s glove just for the occasion… somehow I just can’t seem to find one that will do ; )
And bmaz, just for the record, I saw the first purple and gold game, but not the second (a very good thing, since I don’t think I would have taken it well). For the past 6 weeks, we’ve either had non-football company visiting us or we’ve been visiting non-football people. Next year, I really must do a better job with penciling in the fall social calendar ; )
I watched both games from the same vantage point Aaron Rodgers had; planted on my butt.
LOL : )
Somehow I think Rodgers was poppin’ more ibuprofen at the end of the day than you were though ; )
Well, now that Michael Jackson is down for the count, I’m not sure where you’ll find a gentleman who wears white gloves. Good luck!
Bob in AZ
Yeah, well the gloves aren’t my only problem, I seem to have mislaid my silver and ivory dueling pistols as well. I was so ill prepared for this heinous and unexpected attack! How does one uphold one’s honor in such a barbaric age? ; )
Just drop the MOAB and have done with it.
Is that barbaric enough for ya?
From the article bmaz linked:
Truer words were never spoken.
You will note bmaz, that he did not say we take Favre with us wherever we go, we take the Packers. Amen brother.
‘Nuff said.
Although, I am sure I will think of more to say and come back to share it ; )
Heh heh, in fact I DID have you in mind!
If I wasn’t so busy taking umbrage in my high dudgeon, I would be flattered ; ) As it is good sir, I am in mid-quest looking for a decent pair of gloves with which to properly challenge you to a duel! Harummpphhh. ; )
Saints are somewhat injury-depleted this week, but they should have Darren Sharper back and there is no way they drop one to the Bucs. That means they go into next week at 10-0 to square off against the 7-3 Pats (who will have no trouble downing the Jets this weekend). Now THAT is the game I want to see!
Oh, and Case Keenum is probably going to throw for about 600 yards against Memphis today. Now if he only had a defense …
OK, Keenum was 10-16 for 178 yards and two scores in the first quarter and he is over 200 yards with 2 minutes gone in the second. 600 for the day is a definite possibility. How is this guy not in the top 3 when it comes to Heisman trophy talk?
He plays for Houston.
With 11 minutes remaining in the 3rd, he is now 29-39 for 405 yards, 5 TDs, no picks. So he plays for Houston … an 8-2 C-USA team that would probably be no better than 4-6 without him. Who else means that much to their team and even comes close to putting up those kinds of numbers?
Pardon the interruption, but here’s some real trash talk. And who can do it better than Matalin?
Ex-Bush aide: No crying in politics, even if men slap women
Oooh, the Texas Tech Red Rayduhs are whuppin Freep’s Bummer Sooners at halftime.
This is gonna make Freep hungry, I better rustle up a troll for him to munch on (can never find LibertyLee when you need him)….
Big Game fun fact: Cardinal offensive line puts blue collar on
Quite frankly Toby Gerhart is not a serious Heisman candidate it does not seem; in my book, he should be leading the race. All the talk is Tebow, McCoy or the kid from Arkansas. No love for the Stanford kid who has been absolutely shredding all year.
Actually I am with you on that one, even if the guy is from Snodfart … he should definitely be a contender.
Hey, I think John in SacTown is dissing your airport friends!!
And in response to John, wouldn’t it be better if the SEC scheduled more out of conference games against Mountain West and WAC teams and lower Pac-10 teams? Those SEC heavyweights should be playing schedules like USC does every year. Take on the biggest and baddest comers you can find.
That’s OK, just see if his luggage makes it on the next trip he takes.
And you are right about the big-name SEC teams scheduling easy non-conference schedules. Of course, USC playing Ohio State seems like an automatic W for the Prophylactics.
Yeah, but at least the Prophylactics are not scheduling Upper Savannah State or whatever.
What is up with the SEC?
Florida up 42-3 over Florida International
Florida International????
What is that? Sounds like an airport. Is that where baggage handlers learn how to destroy your luggage?
And Alabama?
45-0 over Tennessee Chattanooga
Really? Chattanooga? What? Indiana State wasn’t available?
Houston pulled Keenum after going up 49-14 in the 3rd, after Keenum’s 5th TD. His understudy managed 6-6 for 81 yards and a score so far. I feel bad for the Memphis Tigers; they are not a good team this year, but I didn’t think they were that bad.
Phred, in a fit of high dudgeon, wrote:
You need only one glove to throw down the gauntlet, and since you’re going to throw it down, any old glove should do…
Bob in AZ
Someone forgot to tell the folks in Mississippi that you just don’t wear white after Labor Day.
WAIT, is the Bugeyes/Wolverweenies not even on national TeeVee??? Has it fallen that far???? I cannot find it on my schedule…
It was on here. No bowl for the Wolverweenies for the second year in a row. Rich Rod can start packing his bags tonight…
Speaking of the Big Ten — anyone know how the Badgers are doing? They beat the Woolvereenies last weekend — and there was much rejoicing in the ol’ home state : )
Update: photos here.
Are Mitch McConnell and Sessions really in the Senate today? Has anybody checked?
I’m pretty sure the AP story I checked a few minutes ago had a quote from McConnell, but he coulda phoned it in…
In case anyone’s missed it, this week is the 25th anniversary of one of the greatest college football games ever – Miami v Boston College
You need to refer to that game by its proper name “The Flutie Miracle Game”!
lol
It was a good game though; a real shootout
bmaz @ 38,
You’re too late; its over. Final score 21-10 I think. Michigan might have won, but their freshman quarterback threw 4 interceptions, and Michigan gave the Buckeyes their first touchdown by fumbling on their 1 yard line.
Bob in AZ
Goodbye Charlie!!!
UConn (crikey they have a football team too??) has just beaten the frail Golden Domers in their own South Bend home. Gee, that is just horrible…..
Oh masaccio, where art thou masaccio?
What the heck just happened with LSU Miss? Why didnt they do a field goal?
And they let about 15 extra seconds tick off before calling the time out on the play before that. Miles can’t manage the clock.
I’d like to think my Jayhawks could be a trap game tonight for Texas. At the very least, I hope they keep it close…
Golden showers for the Golden Bears…
Thunderchickens… 7
Auric Ursines… um, well, higher tuition.
Live Big Game
h/t john in sacramento from last week.
Give’m a pat on the butt would’ya coach…
Big Score 14-0
More games here. The only thing is, the default audio is too high so make sure to turn your sound down before clicking
Thanks! I don’t worry about the audio… my sound card is kaput!
Which makes my commentary even more tone-deaf…
BTW Remember those old war movies where the sentries would ask infiltrating saboteurs things like who was the the MVP in the 1939 World Series? It seems that detainees now not only know sports trivia, but how to talk smack.
Bears find the scoreboard. Punt for 3. Not that they didn’t try for a TD.
Those Bears ought to stick to pic-a-nic baskets. They certainly can’t catch a football!
Forget it Yogi, it’s all Boo-Boo tonight!
Good thing the Cardinal defense avoids covering the Bear receivers… otherwise Yogi might think it’s a real game and actually catch a ball occasionally.
Vereen for a Bear TD
OK so Cal actually discovers the end zone. Maybe Ranger Smith dropped a dime just so the Bears could have 10. Trees not getting taller at 14.
Here’s a shocker, Quackers waddling all over Wildcats 14-0 midway through 2nd quarter.
Quaaaaackk!!
‘Cats got on their party dresses today!
Whassup wit da Cats? Can’t catch a Duck to save a Tree for the Roses?
Trees looking to find a new home for the Axe! Bears score for 17-14 lead.
Bears score 17 unanswered. Has the momentum shifted? Or was it just my omentum?
Now 14-7, even if the Wildcats catch the Ducks, Stanford’s shot at the Rose Bowl is very much in doubt. Quick, the fainting couch!
Uh Ma Gawd. Bears leave another mark. Cardinal blood spilled again.
[24-14]
PocketProtectors! Geet yer PocketProtectors! In teh end zone naaawl!
[24-20, da Bears](still)
What do you know. Cal can catch a ball. 31-21 Bears fixin’ to keep teh Axe.
Crash test dummies reprogrammed… Stanford finds a windshield to break through. (31-28) Bears not so confident that Stanford won’t use the newfound Arizona (17-14)lead as incentive to win this BIG GAME!
Oh well, so much for fame and glory.
[Bears up 34-28]
Now that’s the way to lose…throw it to the other guys just when you need a touchdown the most. Good thinking — the Rose Bowl would have been a big distraction anyway.
alskjdhsdf_asldjrthejqwi_sadlk;vncrt!! (Head on keyboard effect)
Shoulda run the ball. First down on the 13? Gerhart four tries from there should have worked…
and bill belichick with a sigh of relief that jim harbaugh has overtaken him in the stupidest 4th down call of the week.
4th & 8?! 4th & 8?! With a redshirt freshmen quarterback suddenly playing like a redshirt freshmen?
ack.
congrats bears.
Oh my.
During the Michigan game, when it was clear Michigan was going to lose to Ohio for the 6th straight time, the announcers were debating whom Michigan would hire after firing the current coach. Jim Harbaugh was proposed as one candidate. But they didn’t know about Harbaugh’s 4th-down call.
Bob in AZ
Cindy Bear be gettin’ some to-nite!
Cats are stoops and throw interception into Ducks blind. Ducks gobble it up and have 80 yards and 3:11 on the clock.
Geez. I didn’t realize Georgia would take having their dog die so badly. They lost at home to Kentucky.
are you kiddin me
according to country music, that’s the second worst thing that can happen to a guy
How ’bout them Wildcats going in between the hedges and puttin’ a clawin’ on the Dawgs?
Hey, when we win there every 30 years or so, got to talk it up. Now if they can just put a whole game together at home against the Vols next week, we might have something.
And the Hilltoppers didn’t lose last night! (OK, they also didn’t play but when you’re #120, ya go for whatever silver lining you can find)
teh ducks take a quack at overtime
an DREW FOOKIN BREES
and about that “JC Penny backwoods sweater vest wardrobe”
it’s a Backwoods – FORMAL sweater vest wardrobe
it’s reversible
I can’t believe people are STILL rationalizing the BilBel BrainFart.
Don’t look now, but in his last four games, DREW FOOKIN’ BREES has 6 TD’s and 7 picks. Just sayin’.
Texas Tech Red Rayduhs over Oklahoma. That is all.
Howdy to Phred!
Brees will be eaten alive by Brady on November 30th, stay tuned.
every time you think “Darren Fookin Sharper” you owe me a quarter
jes remember that …
I’m gonna find a way to make this copyright thingy pay off

Baltimore hanging in, Manning has already thrown two picks, one to our friend Mr. Ed Reed.
Hiya randiego, thanks for keeping us posted on one of the minor games today… I’m watching the main attraction — Packers-Niners! Pack up 13-3 : )
[Edited to fix the score — oops! And randiego, didn’t see your howdy before, Howdy right back at ya!]
Ed Reed is a fucking stud.
Elam misses 35-yd FG attempt.
Unfortunately the Falcons are about to get the ball again. I will wait to see if I was yelled at for after football.
What do you think you mighta been yelled at for?
WOOT! Pack up 20-3 : )
Yeah, sorry, Brett is doing better: Has the Purple People up 21-0 at halftime over the Squawks and is 14 for 16 for 128 yards and 3, count em 3, TDs!!!
Pssst, bmaz? Ummm, the Purple Dinosaurs are playing Seattle. Our high school team could make a good showing against them.
Packers just went up 23-3 at the half : )
You can have Purple Brett. I’ll take whoever the Pack puts on the field ; )
Al-Qaida is laughing at you!
And the mighty Favres, er Vikings, are NOT the Barneys….
Barney’s, Bretty’s, it’s hard to keep track ; )
Fumble! Giants currently at Atlanta 11.
I corrected Mary’s confusion on which bill the Lieberman amendment passed under.
In that case, I would expect a hearty thank you rather than a yelling ; )
Rooting for the Gents today?
oh yeah
yer goin straight to hell for doin somethin like that …
(wink)
the favres are mighty now
but December lurks …
Looks like the Squawks need GPS to find the endzone
Sydney Rice is putting his body out there, and taking lots of punishment for it. I hope he has one of those fancy mouth guards that the Saints are using.
In a late season baseball game, the Washington Nationals seem to be beating the Dallas Rangers 3-0.
somebody hit a bases-loaded triple, now 6-0.
Ya sure about that? More likely to be a 3 run dinger given the band box ballparks and incredibly plodding players unable to run out a triple these days.
The Ravings have the same problem. Into the red zone 5 times against the Dolts, but no touchdowns.
Bob in AZ
Since enough hasn’t been said about BillBel’s play call against the Colts, I’ll add this … keeping his Offence on the field was acknowledgement of how much respect he has for Peyton Manning.
The Pats had a better chance of winning with Brady on the field, than with Manning calling his 2-minute drill.
FWIW, I thought the Pats had the first down, but the Ref made a bad call.
I love you Petro…
*mwaaah* … rightbackatcha !
The Ravens Defence are showing how to contain the Colts awesome Offence … hope the Pats are taking notes.
OK, bmaz, let’s do it. I manage some slight optimism. Turnover already.
Points are important.
Woot! Packers win! 30-24 : )
Nicely done ! The Packers are a terrific young team with a lot of potential.
Seems like the Pack is curiously missing a grizzled old veteran that knows how to win. I wonder why that is……
A Packer fan reacts to Favre signing with the Norsemen ;-)
That was hilarious thanks! You realize I will now go to my grave picturing bmaz with a little mustache ; ) That was just great!
Me?? I kind of picture Hitler being Ted Thompson.
When you get to the end Hitler converts to Vikingism, kinda reminded me of you ; )
Thanks Petro : ) Alas, the Pack has been the youngest team in the NFL for 4 straight years (Ted Thompson’s “brilliant” strategy). Despite all appearances to the contrary, I agree with bmaz that we could do with some more veterans at certain key positions…
By the way randiego, your Bolts don’t seem to be adversely affected by low oxygen. You would never know the Broncos have home field advantage today…
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again … the DonKos should make the Zebra Socks a permanent part of their Uniform.
Welker is having himself a game !
Agreed.
It’s much easier to beat your opponent while they’re giggling at your attire …
And Giants survive! They were damn lucky Michael Turner couldn’t play today.
These announcers are so 6th-rung I am going to listen to the game on the radio.
Chiefs Win ! Chiefs Win !
stillers lose focus, stillers lose no sleep maybe
and da chiffs beat da stillers in OT, 27-24
This Week in the post-parital NFL must surely be one for the record books in terms of mismatches, & the sub-theme has be ennui; Exhibit A: Indy napping through an otherwise routine slaughter of apophenic successors to their former hellhole to leave a whiff of competitiveness; Exhibit B: Gi’nts Van Winkles wake up in OT; Exhibit C: Vikes so sleepy through the first quarter, even ennui must have acted like meth; etc etc etc.
All in all, the perfect week to indulge Browns vee Lions, to the point that game o’ the week needs a suitable name:
Clash of the Microns?
Ca-crumble in the kittylitter?
keep in mind that this thought comes from a Buffalo Bills fan who lives in Cali:
pittsburo can’t win without palamalu
might sound stupid, but he’s ahead in the pool
old school pittsburo fans who remember Bradshaw can unnerstan how Big Ben’s current state of consciousness isn’t relevant. the stllers always play best when their Qb is half conscious and bleeding from the ears …
Pumpkin. As in “turned into”. Jackson should have had that. I notice this game is so fascinating that bmaz has a new post up.
New post? Where?
Bob in AZ
Same as always, on the Emptywheel blog!
OK, I found it. The new post is up top in the Wheel House. My computer didn’t “see” it for a minute.
Bob in AZ
the poor guy has to post up, since he can’t drive the lane any more
he’s too old to take it to the hole
(WHAT ??? too early for basketball smack ???)
Hmmm, I read it as he had his post replaced and was trying it out…
You run that way, and I’ll run this way.
I heard Bmaz will be live blogging the Pats v NO game.
Didn’t he go all ga-ga for Sanchez, a few weeks back…
Sanchez to Leigh Bodden, three times…
Best slot machine— Wes Welker (a humble player, too).
I’m betting against the Pats in that game, and not bc I want Fookin Brees to win.
Cos you like the Times-Picayune and Miss Mardi Pants?
Saints are a 3 point pick, with lotsa points on the board.
11/30 8:35 ET At New Orleans -3 New England 56 -$ +$
Yeah, but I think people consistently overrate the Pats.
The Saints have a D that matches Ds that have already made Brady’s O look less than stellar this year. Throw in the home field and I still go with the Saints.
Someone cleaned out Brady’s head … prolly a Sports Shrink. He was a different person yesterday than he was last week. The game will be decided by Defense, both Offenses are evenly matched.
Indeed.
I will be late for work on Tuesday next (I work at home).
B&B have a few scores to settle, so I’m predicating that they will
be ahead at half-time…
OAK 20

the football gods took pity on the raider nation and delivered unto them a victory to see them through to another day.
You are not kidding, that comeback required divine intervention and they got it. Glad that all of northern CA is not awash in football grief tonight ; )
SO far Raider nation has beaten two division leaders, right?
I’m hoping someone screwed up next week’s schedule and the Colts are headed to Oakland.
Rayduhs visit Big D and the ‘Boys for Turkey Day.
Even better
The Old Man of the South was going great guns again today, until he was knocked out shortly before the half. Matt Leinart played QB for the Cards in the second half, and did almost nothing of any significance except for making just barely enough first downs to keep the Rambo’s offense off the field for long enough to eke out a win. Hey, I thought Leinart was supposed to be the QB of the future or something. He didn’t look like it today.
Warner was strolling the sidelines in the second half, so I’m hoping that he didn’t actually have a concussion. I want him to stay healthy until the end of the season– and then I hope he has enough sense to retire. Its true he’s not as old as that other old guy in the Minnesota tundra, but you wanna quit before you become a dirty old man on the sidelines like Joe Montana, trying to hit on all the young ladies who tried to interview him about some football questions.
Bob in AZ
That was Joe Namath hitting on Suzy Kolber, not Joe Montana.
Oops, sorry, I sit corrected. Apologies to Joe Montana.

Hey, anybody remember who it was that predicted the Bears would win the NFC North and be world beaters with Jay Cutler this year?? I know it was somebody around here…….
Iggles off to very strong start against Da Bearrss. Up 10 zip in first quarter.
Wow, the Broncos didn’t even put up a fight today, although I thought they got hosed on the fumble in the end-zone. Looked like a TD to me.
I was listening to Bolts Radio on my way home, and the word is that McDaniel was talking smack to the Charger linebackers before the game – something to the effect that “we own you”… hah. He thinks he’s BilBel!
What is it with the Broncos? Has everyone figured out how to play Kyle Orton?
Bob in AZ
I think that’s part of it. Orton is accurate but doesn’t have a strong arm, so teams started playing tighter defenses. Of course, he was hurt today and probably shouldn’t have been playing, but Simms looks hopeless.
Cutler is what he is, but McDaniels decision to diss Cutler trying to get Cassel in the off-season doesn’t seem very smart.
Their big problem is roster depth – Shanahan left the cupboard pretty bare. It’s not getting any better, either – their schedule the rest of the way is tough with games against NYG, Indy and Iggles, along with division games against KC and Raiduhs.
Cutler strikes me as a first rate horses ass; I would not want him in my locker room. It is not just the Denver offense though, I think other teams have been catching on to their new defense now too. Couple that with Orton being hurt and there you go. Not to mention they were a pretty freak 6-0 team anyway. Still if they can manage a 9 win season, which is still fairly possible, that would be six more wins than most people figured them for when the season started and quite a nice little accomplishment.
is that anything like being a “Major Dickhead” ???
cuz we might agree on something here …
I been callin him “the cutlett” since about week 8 of last year
which led to the other guy being “The Ortlet”
both are on a long list of guys I wanna cut on day one
Holy crap Jay Cutler sucks.
Why did Da Bearrss expect Cutler to be the answer to their problems? He was a pretty good college QB, but he played for fookin Vandy. He never learned how to win, or more importantly, he never learned what it was like to win when he was expected to win. At Vandy, every win was a bonus and every loss was something that just came because they were….Vandy. He’s playing tonight like he expects to be on the worse team.
A sudden burst of competence from Jerky Jay.
Yeah, he did that just to make my comment look stupid…
Well Jerky Jay ain’t no Peyton Manning is he? Yikes, that was pretty ugly for a two minute drill to attempt to win a critical game
Okay, so ESPN is showing the US soccer finals, Salt Lake vs LA. Apparently the game is being decided by guys taking turns kicking the ball into the net? What kind of sport is this?
That would be like having an Homerun Derby contest to decide an extra-inning baseball game, isn’t it?
any chance those finals are in l.a…at dodger stadium…and the match just ended?
i ask because mega-loud fireworks just erupted outside, all loud and ‘splodey. usually happens during dodger friday home games.
Was in Seattle I think.
Heh, pretty much. Curiously enough, Fucking Bud Selig actually considered doing just that in All Star games if they ever ran out of pitchers again like they did that year they had a tie.
soccer finals ???
I’ve heard that before
but the bastards started playing soccer again, less than a year later
what part of final do these guys fail to unnerstan …
Whoa!! Check out this dude who landed a 157 pound bluefin tuna while fishing in a kayak!
Hmm, jawing with players? He didn’t deny it either, his response was – not kidding – “the Chargers started it”.
Dude’s not ready for prime time.
But Norval is a star made for the prime time limelight? Give me a break; the Bolts win a couple of games and think they are all Vince Lombardi and the Packer freight train or something.
Best 7-3 teams, Bolts, Pats?
The Pats are beating people pretty soundly, the Chargers really aren’t. They’ve been catching a lot of breaks lately, a fumble here, a well-placed flag there. No one here is really talking about that. Sometimes the breaks go the other way, and we’ll see what happens when they do.
Besides, the Pats aren’t 7-3, they’re 7-2-1 (BBFG).
I didn’t say either one of those things, you did. But I noticed you avoided what I was talking about.
Norv is what he is, but you’ll never catch him jawing with opposing teams’ players. Even the hyper-aggressive Belichick won’t do it, and there’s a reason for that.
Heh heh heh
McDaniels is young, but shows a lot of promise. Belichick made some bonehead moves in his first post at the Brownies, and he was older and more experienced than McDaniels. Give him time.
Feh. If you say so. Fake it ’til you make it, I guess. The false bravado, the Belichick hoodie, the onside-kick early in the 3rd when only trailing by 10 points.
Pain hurts, especially when you talk smack and then get out-coached by Norv freakin’ Turner.
Wow, bad news for Stillers. Polamalu is out for a few more weeks and now, they just announced that their backup QB is out for 6 weeks, following Big Ben’s blow to the head yesterday.
