Bush DOJ Reunion Tour
I’m posting this just to make sure I don’t forget about it.
John Ashcroft, the U.S. attorney general during President Bush’s first term — and noted singer of “Let the Eagle Soar” (YouTube clip here) — is spreading his wings. Today Ashcroft (pictured, right) announced that his law and consulting firm, The Ashcroft Group, is opening four new offices across the country, each to be led by Bush-appointed U.S. attorneys leaving office to make way for appointees by President Obama. They are:
*Michael Sullivan (pictured, left), U.S. attorney in Boston and former acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives in Washington. Click here for a recent LB post on Sullivan.
*Catherine Hanaway (pictured, right), U.S. attorney, St. Louis
*Johnny Sutton, U.S. attorney in El Paso, Texas, who prosecuted two former border patrol agents for shooting a Mexican drug smuggler in 2005. (On his last day in office, President Bush commuted the agents’ prison sentences.)
*John Ratcliffe, U.S. attorney in Dallas.
Of course, I don’t know how they’ll make a living, given that DOJ is cutting back on sweetheart monitoring deals associated with Deferred Prosecution Agreements.
Yeah, and even though they’re all republicans, it doesn’t mean that they can’t be representing anyone with enough money equally. There wouldn’t be a slant.
EW, please see my 22 on your Lambert post.
Here was my response:
Have Addington and Gonzales found jobs yet? Maybe with landscaping crews or something?
what’s up with Rachel taking gratuitous shots at the Lions? Not cool.
btw, the new Lion looks good!
The new Lion is killer and it doubtless will have you all quivering at least until our No 1 draft pick turns out to be the next Ryan Leaf.
No, your Leafs are turning in Detroit. Just like de aspens.
Unless and until some guy overcomes the objections of his spouse and paints New Bubbles on his garage door for all the neighbor guys to admire and neghbor wives to carp about, like my countryman did with the hypocycloids, I and the rest of Steeler Nation are decidedly unimpressed.
I mean, you don’t see Bubbles or other losing logos painted on anything half a contient away. I do note the possible exception of the Raiders, something, I think, that is a function of an affinity for that whole silver/black pastel-SS mindset of Raiders fans. That sort is everywhere, in small numbers.
I’ve seen losing franchises re-do their logos, unis and everything time and again. Winners, OTOH, don’t need to mess with them.
What ever happened to Joey Harrington, anyway? Drew Henson, I remember watching his final major league at bat in a final-game-of-the-season at Yankee Stadium. He struck out, flailing badly. Looked about as lost as an australopithecus would if trying to cross the traffic in Times Square.
Or was that ‘Make the eagle sore’ by torture alone, Ash(hole)craft adding wordz. The damned bushies (& their blue-dog enablers) make me personally feel ‘dirty’ even though I had no involvement whatsoever w/any of their shit.
Johnny “House of Death” Sutton???? Jeebus. Just kill me.
Josh Marshall at TPM had an interesting comment early this morning, re: “The Junta Party.” With Ashcroft’s move, it sounds like he is setting up an alternative justice system…
“In former Banana Republics, in their post-transition- to-democracy phases, you’ll often have a Junta Party. It’s an opposition party whose main goal isn’t to get elected so much as to maintain the legacy of the former junta regime, defend its record of service to the state and most of all keep its former leaders from being put on trial or shipped off to the Hague. Often the party will be headed up by the former Generals themselves. But if they’re dead or otherwise occupied in the slammer or abroad, maybe you’ll have their relatives or the one-time cronies and lickspittles of this or that el jefe of the old regime filling the leadership roles. “
Does this mean that the remaining members of the party, like Cornyn, are “Banana Republicans?”
6 – why hasn’t anything ever happened with those revelations? Wasn’t the guy who headed up the Spitzer “investigation” for the SDNY also tied in to the ICE end of the House of Death stuff?
