Who Is Paying a Private Investigator to Snoop on Rahm?
I’m not so much interested in the news that Rahm is apparently breaking code by living in Rosa DeLauro’s basement. (h/t scribe)
Rahm Emanuel, Barack Obama’s right-hand man, lives in a basement apartment on Capitol Hill rented to him by Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro. Just one problem: He’s not allowed to live there.
That’s what private investigator Joseph Culligan discovered after asking questions of D.C. officials. A zoning administrator responded to Culligan’s inquiry and told him that DeLauro’s house at 816 E. Capitol St. NE was listed as a single-family dwelling, and as such, could not be rented out.
After all, plenty of people in DC–starting with Norm Coleman–have more legally questionable housing arrangements.
I’m much more interested in who is paying private investigator Joseph Culligan to snoop on Rahm (and DeLauro).
This really underscores a reader comment highlighted at TPM today to the effect that its now clear the GOP are perpetrating ‘all out war’ to damage the Dems and BO. This is one more piece of evidence.
If the media continue their current infantile fixations on pseudo-conflict and voyerism. The economy is in the toilet — quick! Daschle has withdrawn so now let’s all obsess about a city land use permit!
YIppeeeeeeeeee!
My God, I despise the press today.
If they do ONE story on this, I swear that tomorrow I’ll swing by my local UPS store and mail off a pair of shoes. Jesus, what bullshit!
As for Rahm, after 8 years of being spied on by BushCheney, it’s hard to imagine that he gives a rat’s ass about someone investigating him.
Well, excuse me. This is common throughout DC and gets investigated about as often as all-day quadruple parking in front of churches on Sunday. The fault, by the way, would usually be the home owner/lessor’s, not the tenant’s.
The Rethuglicans are marking the trees in their now much smaller stretch of woods. Mr. Obama needs to keep reminding them that he learned his politics in Chicago.
If I read the property information correctly, the co-owner for the house is Stanley Greenberg of Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research. Greenberg is one of the founders of DemocracyCorp.
I would not automatically assume the investigation is coming from Republicans. In fact, Rahm may have been a source for some of the Daschle leaks to Woodward. It has been rumored for a long time that Rahm has his antenna adjusted to a very high level but no one can see it.
I’m sure Culligan’s in the book. Somebody call and ask him. Hey Culligan Man!?
Someone should have hired Culligan to investigate Rove…but noooo….this is a very strange story…with very interesting implications..
Bob Woodward may not be paying the bills but my guess is he’s being cc’d
Emmanuel should go, and soon! He is slime!
Isn’t hiring a private investigator SOP for rethug opposition research?
Rahm
Gates
Odierno
Petraeus
Gregg
They are all on the “check-off” list of those who need to go…
Good list! First and foremost, though, Rove should be jailed!
In answer to the question that is your title:
The people who are paying for a PI on Rahm’s tail (who digs up mildly embarrassing stuff like this) are the same people who stocked the IRS with people friendly to their way of doing business who leak tax problem stories (through a cutout or two, SOP, you know) to Woodward.
Did anyone really think that, in an administration which politicized DoJ to the extent it did and ran the country as a criminal enterprise, that same administration would not use the IRS for its own political ends?
Indeed.
10 – dang! I was going to go with Joe the Plumber.
Gosh: is it still against the D.C. Code if you don’t charge rent? Because most cities don’t have bylaws against letting someone ’stay’ with you.
And boy oh boy, does that Gawker piece ever lay out to make the situation look as scuzzy as possible: e.g. what with referring to that quite attractive looking & well-kempt townhouse complex a “firetrap” and all.
I’m no fan of Rahm, but methinks a thread that contains a question on who hired this investigator & a mention of Joe the Plumber [Mary at 13] is serendipitous.
Excuse me, but Joseph Culligan was the investigator?
Joseph Culligan of Miami?
Joseph Culligan, author of “You Too Can Find Anyone” and “Adoption Searches Made Easy” and “Requirements to Become a PI.”
Joseph Culligan who runs the “web of deception” website? And has Emmanuel’s info plastered all over it.
I think someone should look deeper into Culligan. If he was hired, that would be the equivalent of hiring someone like Matthew Lesko to be your financial advisor. Bizarre.
Lesko – Is that the dude with the question marks???
JUST ASK LESKO!!
He is.
Lesko is also, not surprisingly, a DC area resident. He drives a purple Mini Cooper with yellow question marks. And most of his clothes (his everyday shopping at Safeway clothes) also have question marks.
Emptywheel,
I suppose some ”inquiring minds” are paying the gumshoe.
I have a daughter in Washington, and Zillow shows her to have a small 2 level condo, but it is really 3 levels fully furnished and piped out. The basement apartment doesn’t officially exist but it is rented out. Anyway, a minor revelation about something that happens a lot.
What excites and flabbergasts me is this guy with Question Marks!
Are they sewed on his clothes, or stenciled and painted, or does he just use a big Magic Marker? Does he have tattoo question marks as well?
I will check with my daughter about him next time I speak to her.
You know, I bet there are plenty of possible volunteer investigators who would be willing to snoop on the GOP…If I remember, there were recently about 1.2 possible recruits who were standing out on the Mall in D.C.
Note to GOP, we can go there too and our percentages are higher.
