I’m just a silly old woman but I have to say Marcy, Happy Birthday to US! I will be 75 tomorrow as well! I’m stoked. lol

    • David Brooks says:

My twin granddaughters will be 8 tomorrow (Easter Sunday) and I’m 75 in July. Does that count?

On average you’d expect the date of Easter to repeat about every 26 years, but the last 3/31 Easter was 2013, when we were in St Peter’s Square having just heard that our younger son’s wife was expecting their first child, 34 years after we were in St Peter’s Square at Easter, my wife being 5 months pregnant with said son.

      • David Brooks says:

I realize I didn’t complete the loop: the twins are sisters of the 10-year-old, also a girl. The obstetrician managed to pull them out, at Mother’s request, just 13 minutes before All Fool’s Day.

The 10-year-old was born on the 50th anniversary of the first Doctor Who episode, a programme I still remember well (late November 1963 was memorable for other reasons of course). The entire family are devoted Whovians; it helps that my son is a high (private Catholic) school teacher who manages to include history, myth, and social justice in his syllabus.

        David – great story, thanks.

Your comment ‘you’d expect the date of Easter to repeat about every 26 years’ is a great segue into something many people I meet never knew. When I hear someone ponder why “Christmas is on the same day each year, but Easter jumps around, why is that?”.

Ostara was a pagan holiday and it was always celebrated on the Spring Equinox or on the first full moon after the Equinox – fables vary.

The church then added a bit of a twist – Easter is always the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Spring Equinox. To this day the church uses a very Pagan formula for that holiday fable.

Same holiday, co-opted for another diety.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

      THANK YOU SAVAGE LIBRARIAN!

I tried calling on Washington Journal this am and shout it out “I’m 7fucking5 years old! I never had a 75 birthday year and it’s fabulous!

I saw it’s Rep Jasmine Crockett’s birthday too! WOO HOO! I’m truly, so grateful to be alive.

Very Happy Birthday Dr. Wheeler! I hope your dinner and plans make for a memorable day. You deserve it.

And I didn’t post it in the thread, but your headline that Ronna McDaniel should self-deport was one of the wittiest and most pointed jabs you’ve put out lately; a powerful punch for a powerful, on point (as always for you) analysis of NBC and the entire industry’s desire to normalize Trumpism for their own self-interests.

I kept expecting either your piece or you to show up on some MSM honest enough to do some introspection to have you on as a guest. However, I guess none are ready for that.

I’m so proud to support you in the small way I do and send a birthday wish to you for a marvelous, gentle and fruitful year in the midst of the chaos we find ourselves.

    With Warm Birthday Wishes,

    Chicken

I enjoy your conversations with Nicole Sandler very much

  4. BRUCE F COLE says:

    Here’s a fantasy scenario:

How cool would it be if, like the Kennedy family dissing RFK Jr by going to the WH en masse to publicly endorse and support Biden, the Romney clan (or a significant cohort of it, both from UT and MN) could be corralled by Mitt to do the same thing, sans Ronna? That would be a much more emphatic move, obviously, because Romneys are all Rs, but there’s a shitload of critical policy and governance issues that might prompt such a move: Ukraine, Trump-endorsed and -committed criminality, the descent of the R party into a cobbled-together smear machine incapable of hardly any legislating capacity, the concomitant descent of their party into a fascistic cult, etc, etc.

If Romney is serious about ridding his party of Trumpism, that would be a very effective way to help achieve it, imo.

But is it a likely one? Nah.

  5. BRUCE F COLE says:

Suggestion for Nicole, based on a constant refrain in these sessions, week after week: bill her talks with Marcy as:

    Emptywheel Friday
(You Can’t Make This Shit Up!)
