Forgotten Toobz Fail

I woke up this morning and tried to do a post comparing how the UAW acts after getting bailed out with how JPMorgan Chase does. But then I realized I forgot my Toobz chez Prince-town. That’s probably just as well since I’m supposed to be packing all weekend. So consider this an open thread until such time as I take a break at a coffee shop or bmaz takes over.

Yaaaaaaawn. Huh, what, toobz fail? It is still like the crack of dawn here on the coast with the most. Okay, let me find some food and I will take out the Trash. Then I might actually finally have something to say on WikiLeaks a little later.

re UAW: If I had accepted the job offer as a teaching assistant in grad school: how is it I would have belonged to the auto workers union, when my degree was in language, and the TA job was teaching a few undergrad classes in language and literature. Must be the assemblyline approach to learning.

Since bmaz hasn’t taken out the Trash yet, here’s some:

I see that the Army vs. Navy game is about to start. Meh. Now, what I’d pay to see is, say, Army vs. Taliban. That would be a much better way to take out our aggressive impulses, in lieu of that useless exercise we’re currently doing over in AfPak. The Taliban could even be offered a share of the gate, as long as they didn’t muck things up with any car bombs. And we might have to clarify with them that if they should win the game (heaven forbid), that would NOT mean that they get title to the stadium.

When I was a kid, back when, I remember reading that during a major negotiation with GM (I believe), the negotiators were at loggerheads. GM pulled an ace card, threatening to move production of some plants to Mexico. Walter Reuther, then President of the UAW pondered this statement for several seconds and then asked, if the plants were moved to Mexico, who would be able to afford to buy GM products. After considering Reuther’s question, the negotiations continued, GM mainly caved, production staying in the US. Seems in the last 15 years the Government and Capitalists forgot you need a consumer/middle class base to purchase products.

Great UAW timeline vs US/World events:

One way around that dilemma (wanting to sell products in the US, but paying US workers less or not at all by moving production) was to pump up the credit economy. So wages didn’t buy the capitalists’ products, but debt did instead.

Well, the entire article is one giant flaming pile of craven shit, but that subhead is spot on accurate. Congratulations Democratic Congress; the last two things you will be known for are ratifying Bush’s due processless detention and tax cuts for billionaires policies. Pretty pathetic.

Y’know, I’m wondering if the Republicans, crazed by Obama hatred, might actually do something to start reining in Executive Department over-reach. Not starting with Guantanamo, but “due processless detention” (nice phrase, that) might be something that they’d take exception to…. except, of course, for “terrorists” and the so-called “worst of the worst”.
