Next Blagojevich Shoe to Drop: the Deputy Governor

Illinois’ Deputy Governor Bob Greenlee just "resigned."

A spokeswoman for Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich says one of his top aides has resigned.

Spokeswoman Kelley Quinn on Wednesday said Deputy Gov. Bob Greenlee resigned. The reason for his resignation wasn’t immediately clear.

Greenlee’s resignation comes a day after Blagojevich was arrested on federal corruption charges.

Gosh, why do you think someone in Blagojevich’s office resigned today, the day after his boss got busted?

You don’t think it has anything to do with the search the Feds conducted of the Deputy Governor’s office yesterday, do you?

MR. FITZGERALD: It’s at the office of Deputy Governor — a deputy governor. And there’s a search warrant being executed at the Friends of Blagojevich campaign headquarters.

Or maybe it has to do with the large number of times one or another "Deputy Governor" was named in the complaint yesterday, you think? There’s no confirmation which Deputy Governor is which in the complaint, but there are descriptions of a Deputy Governor participating in the Trib stuff and the Senate seat sale and some of the fundraising scams.

I mean, if I recognized I were the Deputy Governor named all those times in a complaint supporting the arrest of my boss, I might consult a lawyer pretty quickly. In fact, I might want to get chatty pretty quickly. Heck, even if I weren’t that Deputy Governor, I might chatty and get myself as far away from Blago as quickly as I could.

Then again, given the sheer stupidity of Blagojevich as portrayed in yesterday’s complaint, I wouldn’t put him beyond going on a firing spree as he got more and more paranoid about which of his friends had flipped on him.

Why did Bank of America need a bail out and then turn around and spend $7bil to buy a bigger piece of China Construction Bank? And why doesn’t everyone know about this? Or is it just me who doesn’t know this? (luckily I heard it from a freind of a big wig at BofA)

The banks have all this money they aren’t lending so they are looking for things they can buy with it at depressed prices (the result of their not lending).

Marcy, I sure wondered about the same thing as I was reading the complaint. I said to myself, I would not like to be the Deputy Governor named herein.

    Get’em all, Fitz!

Firing spree? Nothing would surprise me at this point. I posted the same thought in a comment over at Steve Benen’s place, but given the level of batshit crazy Blagojevich has demonstrated to date, would it at all be surprising for him to call a press conference to announce that he’s thought really hard about it, and yes – he’s decided that he’s the best guy to serve out Obama’s term in the senate? I mean, he’s clearly out of his mind. People keep saying he’s dumb as a bag of rocks, but he did manage to get through law school, pass the bar and get hired as a prosecutor. Regardless of what we think of the legal profession, that does demonstrate – or suggest – at least average to above average intelligence or reasoning. Assuming he didn’t cheat the whole way through. A not unreasonable assumption!

I hope you are right. Sure can’t remember Fitz using as strong of words for the Libby crimes Never heard Fitz say “taking us to a truly new low, appalling” or “Lincoln would roll over in his grave” when it came to Libby or Cheney.

Clouds hanging over the V.P is a long way from “appalling”

Considering that Rove, at least, is tied to the effort to have him booted as USA, I suspect that would make Fitz happy.

So far this is looking like a replay of the Rezko proffer from December 2007: Lots of implicating Blagojevich and his buddies, nothing nasty at all on Obama. There’s lots and lots of thunder and lightning, but the legal lightning isn’t hitting Obama and the thunder is mostly the GOP/Media Complex doing its best to invent things.

when did Fitx and cnn get so niave ???

this is the MOST DISPICABLE political scandal ever ???

never heard of Huey Long ???

    Tammney, Pendergast

ever read about H A W Tabor, a distinguished senator from the state of Colorado ???

    Fitz don’t do hyperbole well

and cnn is just a waste of skin …

    • Petrocelli says:

I think Watergate ranks as the worst political scandal ever but even Nixon tried to cover it up … Blago was so overt as to deem himself infallible.

That would make him, in my estimation, most despicable …

  6. Leen says:

Could Blago have really been talking to someone about a pardon from Bush if Fitz nailed him? Could they be on the tapes?

  7. Twain says:

I really hope that Jackson, Jr. is not involved in this mess. I heard him say on the radio this morning that
he spoke with Blago last Tuesday and before that had not spoken to him in 4 years.

    “firing spree?”

There may be some who recall the mobster glory days in Chicago, and think this guy is just crazy enough to terminate them in other ways.

      • plunger says:

This guy clearly views himself as a cartoon version of the mobsters and bosses of his childhood days – which seem to have extended to present day.

He is a caricature of himself.

2 summers ago I drove my middle daughter to Chicago to live. She lives near Logan Square. Have only spent a bit of time in that city. As I drove into the area past Scary Indianna I kept asking where did all their tax money go the roads are a “blinking” mess..potholes people doing 80 complete madness. While there I was talking with a bunch of the garbage collectors asking them what they made what kind of insurance. I forget their hourly rate it was not horrible but not good yet they did have relatively good health care packages

The other thing I was surprised about Chicago was one of my dearest friends who has been the Marketing Director/Editor and some other position for Co-Op America for 25 years had told me that Chicago was the third greenest city in the States. Not sure how they figure these ratings out…but I could just not see it.

If you want to know who the Governor already accepted bribes from, just watch the list of people who donate to his legal defense fund.

They let him out to monitor who he leans on to help him.

How many times will this clown threaten to “sing like a canary?”

He may be the one who winds up in the trunk of a rental car at O’Hare.

the invasion of Iraq is the worst political scandal ever, unless you can come up with a scandal that killed more soldiers …

(you could probably find a LOT worse shit in the policy of genocide waged against native Americans during the 19th century)

blago ain’t the most despicable, just the dumbest

    think about it

blago ain’t unique in his greed or chutzpa or narcissism, just in his flat out blatant bone headed stupidity

  11. freepatriot says:

anybody else thinking about how disappointed georgie must be ???

blago coulda got presnit bunnypants relieved from being “the Worst Presnit Ever” if blago had been able to realize his dream

hard to believe that george AIN’T the dumbest person holding office in America today
