What Happened to the Other Half Million?
I’ve got just a few questions about the report that prosecutors have found $500,000 that former NRCC treasurer Christopher Ward embezzled (h/t dakine).
The former treasurer of a key Republican campaign committee embezzled more than $500,000 over a five-year period, using it to fund mortgage payments and a six-figure remodeling of his Bethesda home, according to court documents filed yesterday.
The papers were filed by federal prosecutors in an attempt to force the former treasurer, Christopher J. Ward, to forfeit his home to the government.
The government alleges that Ward, who had worked for National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) since the 1990s, made numerous unauthorized diversions of funds from its accounts and joint accounts set up with Senate Republicans. He often shifted money into his personal account just as payments for his mortgage or home remodeling were due, according to the court filing.
First, seeing as how the NRCC admits it has a million dollars less on hand than it thought it did, where did the other half million go?
Well, if you look closely, these court papers pertain to money embezzled from the Presidential Dinner funds, not from the NRCC.
So I’m curious.
Is it just that the embezzlement Ward did from the Presidential Funds is easier to find? Or is something different going on with the NRCC than they’ve been telling us?
A heads up copied from the previous thread-
In the “EW isn’t OT” Category-
Here are a couple of links to the National Conference for Media Reform starting today (that was Fri.) in Minneapolis. First link is EW’s info/panel page, 2nd lists the various web & other forms of coverage of the NCMR:

Who is handling this case for the govt? We need to watch closely to make sure this investigation follows the money.
Good question. I don’t think I’ll be on it until later in the week. I’m falling behind.
Can you say Tom Delay and/or Abramov. Or perhaps walking around money in CT. Definitely not in Wards hands slush fund anyone…..
Laundered into various personal campaigns? Payoffs to state officials for ‘cleaning up’ voter lists? I don’t know, but I’d bet wherever the money went, it’s not to our advantage.
Oops! What’s $500k missing between friends?
Prolly used it to fill up the tank …
OT EW finding the report SSIC report, hope I got that right, very interesting. Just have a few ? and want to know if I can ask them OT over the weekend?
MarieRoget@1 Thanks for the links.
NYT has a front page story on the traditions of both Democrats and Repubicans taking soft corporate money as the infrastructure of their financing their conventions. Corporate sponsers usually abound the same way they do for a major league baseball team.

Getting ready for a get out of jail free card for kkkarl Rove and co. ?
maybe buy off a S—— or two or three
Remember to watch the group of representatives that oversaw this committee and were supposed to be riding herd over Ward. They are notable for the corruption involved in their votes and contributions.
A slush fund is a slush fund. Wonder if there is a remaining law enforcement agency that can investigate?
Tom Cole and Greg Walden have a lot to answer for here. They appear to be running a slush fund that has no accounting. Crime, I think?
you have to cut the gop some slack
they’ve stolen billions in the past 8 years
trying to track down a missing half a million must seem trivial …
I do not pretend to understand all the in’s and out’s of how they raise the money and how they use it. I just wish that I had saved the so-called “survey” that I received in the mail the other day from the NRCC, that was really a request for money. It had the most leading questions — and it tried hard to instill fear about “terrorists” and “liberals.” One question that I do remember (and had a good chuckle over) was, “Do you want to ensure that our nation has a balanced budget during the next administration?”
They must be getting short on money, though. At the end was a request that I put a stamp on the envelope to save on postage costs…
Sounds like tough times in the GOP…
