The Phone Metadata Program Metadata

ODNI released a bunch of the remaining phone dragnet primary orders (and amendments) here. I will have more to say about this later. Of particular note, though, they seem to be withholding the BR 09-15 primary order, which was right in the middle of PATRIOT reauthorization, when NSA kept disseminating results in violation of Reggie Walton’s orders.

  1. Howard, Malcolm BR 06-05 (5/24/06)

  33. Vinson, Roger, BR 13-80, (4/25/13)
  34. Eagan, Claire, BR 13-109, (7/18/13)
  35. McLaughlin, Mary, BR 13-158 (10/11/13)
  36. 1/3/14

1/19: Updated to add the 7/9/09 order and BR 09-19.

1/20: There is one more missing primary order. In an NSA declaration dated November 12, SID Director Theresa Shea said there had been 34 approvals. As shown above, the McLaughlin order is the 33rd of identified orders.

1/26: I think I’ve corrected all the date errors I originally hate (the date stamp is not all that accurate). For the 2011-2013 dates, I’ve worked backwards of the 4/25/13 order.

Not to broaden the subject here, but this metadata program is of course part of a larger picture, all thanks to Edward Snowden. And your note of “they seem to be withholding the BR 09-15 primary order, which was right in the middle of PATRIOT reauthorization” is what prompts my comment.

You can bet your last dollar that a lot of what Edward Snowden absconded and shared was archives pertaining to 9/11 and the resulting morass of “legislation” and other gaming of the Constitution that got shoved down our throats after those attacks.

Are some of those archives full of such frightfully subversive information that Greenwald, etc., couldn’t even get the Guardian to publish them? Is that why they’ve gone on to try and work with a “new news outlet” which is allegedly being put together?

I have theorized this elsewhere and I’m going to posit it here–we have to know whether or not this new news outlet will be up and running before Snowden’s year in Russia is up. I hope like hell the multi-gazillionaire behind the new news outlet isn’t simply waiting out the clock. Like I said, sorry if this seems “off topic”, but it’s at the very least tangentially related, and as the days pass, I worry that we’ll never learn everything that Snowden got away with. So much of it is related to this “metadata program” and the people–both in the NSA and even a few in Congress–who have to be working together to suppress as much of it as they can.
